The Mysterious Book

On a dark silent night, I crept past the quiet playground to the old abandoned office. Some say it's haunted. Do I believe that? Of course, I don’t! The reason why I’m here is because of a book. The office was unused for years. It had three broken windows and a locked door. The insides were filled with broken furniture and spiderwebs. But the thing my curiosity burned for was the lonely leather covered book on the dust floor. It would be a quick trip, going in, taking the book, and coming out. I climbed onto the second window and looked inside, the place was darker than outside, in the moonlight. I leapt in. I looked around. Nothing moved. I slowly crept to the book just as I heard something shuffling, on my left. I stopped moving and cautiously looked around. The noise stopped. My heart started throbbing harder and harder in my chest. Coming here was a mistake. Suddenly, two bright eye-like dots appeared near the window. Fear crept in like a thief. The creature came closer. And closer. I could clearly see it now. It was a… black cat. I sighed in relief. I reached out for the book. Just as I was about to open it, a sinister feeling filled the place. Just then something lurked near the wall, it was not the cat, I could see a dull shadow in the darkness. A chill ran down my spine. A silvery shadow of a human-like figure. I just stood there in the eerie silence, terrified on the spot. I was afraid if I would scream, it would attack. Its presence had a foreboding atmosphere. Why? Why was I so stupid to come here? Slowly, the creepy tall figure came closer, it looked like it floated. I was breathless. Its eyes flashed crimson bright, though it looked as cold as ice. It was a silvery misty shape of a ghost. It did not have legs. It simply floated. I felt like I was going to die of fear as my heart pounded my chest. Then, I finally came to my senses and edged towards the window. Panic and unease shivered over me. The ghost-like figure was slowly following me, its red eyes flashing menacingly. It came closer and its hands started to grope for me. It had long silvery nails. I tried to jump outside but it was too high. With all my might, I leapt outside, the pleasant breeze hitting my face. I looked in the window. There was no ghost. I ran to my house. Anxiety slowly drifting away. A gush over relief settled inside of me. I smiled. I did not have the book but at least I made it out alive. [Date: 11/2/25]
